Art installation
Company:
A photo/video wall
Description Task:
Tasked to develop and interactive experience that would be not only uploading images to a library but actually experiencing the images as an art installation. The goal is to take the public eye to come in and upload they're pictures from they're cellphones to a bluetooth connector in subways etc.. to show a picture they took. This is also with video from the web and they're cellphones that they could post up onto the flickr/youtube website.
Competition:
Flickr is one of the competitions to this site but flickr is purely archive looking. You could not really customize anything more on your flickr account.
Audience Description:
The audience that would be viewing this site is early 20’s and above. This mainly deals with the creative minds of people that want to explore and show off they're work.
Final Product:
The goal for this project is to build a installation or touch screen application that would allow the user to upload pictures and video but also be able to customize their space. It would be a type of interactive gallery. Here you'd be able to post your images on a wall space and your friends are able to post comments and view your interactive space just by going to the actual space May it be a subway stop or a bus stop. People would be able to sign a mailing list for shows etc. It is a mix of online space as well as art gallery in a public digital domain.

CREATIVE BRIEF
Steven Lau +
GPK 8th Term
Company:
CNN + Cable News Network
Description Task:
Tasked to develop the next News interface. How can CNN’s site be better used, understood and learnt? What do audiences want/need from news?
Background on Company:
Cable News Network, commonly referred to by its acronym CNN, is a major cable television network founded in 1980 by Ted Turner. In terms of cumulative (Cume) Nielsen ratings or "unique viewers", CNN rates as America's number one cable news source.[3] While the news network has numerous affiliates, CNN primarily broadcasts from its headquarters at the CNN Center in Atlanta, the Time Warner Center in New York City, and studios in Washington, DC. As of December 2004, the network is available in 88.2 million U.S. households and more than 890,000 American hotel rooms. The U.S version of their broadcast is also shown in Canada. Globally, CNN airs through CNN International and has combined branded networks and services that are available to more than 1.5 billion people in over 212 countries and territories. – Wikipedia
Audience Description:
The audience that would be viewing this site is early 20’s and above. This deals with people that are concerned with up to the minute headlines.
Final Product:
The final product will be a well-designed site using flash to make navigation easier on the audience. Using free moving cells to organize importance on information. The site itself will be pliable so that the user themselves interact and customize their news to their liking. Some cells that are set to primary could be larger than other cells that have less importance. The design of the CNN site will encompass designs touches from web 2.0 & 2.5. Using this combination we can have contrast of importance of information. In doing so this allows for better communication of what the audience wants to actually read and care for.

The Evolution of Browsing the Net
I have brainstormed for about a week on this topic and how my project on CNN could be improved upon. The website itself is full of links buttons and news all over the place. I think the solution that CNN is a good one wiht individual widgets and windows placed but to make it an interactive website I would like to actually make these widgets interact in more of a 3d activity than just your average flat display. It seems like the site itself is more just links than interactive. Their Video player in CNN is excellent though. It would be nice to have streaming video on the main page maybe. Depending on the bandwith that is allowded.
NextFest
NextFest show in L.A. Convention. It's an awesome show. Anyone that has time should definately check this out. Gave me some ideas of the future of technology and as well design. There were numerous things that really got me excited. The funny thing is that most of them I knew existed because I'm an avid subscriber to Engadget but seeing the technology in person is so much of a blast and the best thing is that you interact with mostly everything in this show. what a blast.
